My Approach

I am trained in a number of different therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Person Centred Counselling, Transactional Analysis (TA) and Gestalt Therapy.  I am creative in my approach and like to work intuitively – reacting to your needs and with your well-being at the heart of my work; using elements of each therapeutic model.

However we choose to work together, be it side by side in the open air, face to face in a room, or connected by technology you will have my full attention and I will listen with sensitivity, acceptance and with the aim of helping you explore and address your issues at a pace that suits you.

Before becoming a counsellor I worked in a number of diverse areas including a call centre, a watermill, factories, hospitals, a prison and as a public artist.

In 2019 I set up Counselling For Dads an online counselling service for fathers.

Since 2016 I have worked for Devon Counselling College as a tutor, teaching counselling and listening skills, a job which allows me to constantly re-evaluate my working practices and explore creative counselling interventions.

When I am not counselling or teaching, I work as a gardener – a job that allows me to work creatively and get in touch with environment in which I live; this is really important to me and is something that I am integrating into my therapeutic work with ecotherapy clients.

Counselling by its nature is a very intimate process; and working out what you feel you need can be tricky to start with.  Our first session together will be used to set clear boundaries and is a time for us both to meet, talk about what you hope to gain from counselling and how we might work together.

As a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) I operate within their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and as such undertake regular supervision with a qualified supervisor.  We work together using a combination of online, outside and indoor meetings.

If you feel that cost maybe a barrier to you, please ask about low cost sessions.  I have a limited number of places available to people on low incomes.  If there are none available at the time of your enquiry, I am more than happy to add your name to my waiting list.
