Therapies

I trained as an integrative therapist, which means that I have a wide range of theoretical perspectives and practical counselling skills to offer my clients. Below are some examples of the theories that I use when working with clients.

Ecotherapy

Ecotherapy is an umbrella term for a number of structured activities that take place in the natural world. The majority of work I undertake is walk and talk therapy, but it also includes guided meditation, mindfulness (see below), Medicine walks or Environmental Arts Therapy.

Person-Centred Therapy

A non-directive approach (you as the client will lead with me walking alongside you), Person Centred Therapy stems from the belief that we all hold our own answers, but sometimes struggle to find them.

Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt is a German word with no exact English equivalent.  It is often described as “wholeness” – as a form of therapy it fits beautifully with Ecotherapy, looking as it does at the whole experience – who we are and our place in the world.

Mindfulness

The therapeutic technique of focussing on the present, this meditative practice helps bring a consciousness to a physical, mental or emotional state.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

A highly researched therapy, CBT looks at how our thoughts affect how we behave; and how we can change our negative thought patterns.

Transactional Analysis (TA)

An array of psychoanalytical techniques designed to help improve social transactions through identifying and altering ego states. A powerful way of helping resolve conflict and a lot less scary than it sounds!

On-line Counselling

Counselling provided on-line via Zoom video conferencing.

  • Walk and talk therapy felt like a less intense way of therapy and allowed me to open up easier.
